Stephen Thomas Yeakley spent his formative years living in the archipelago of Indonesia, a setting that deeply shaped how he experiences the world. He remembers the thunderstorms rolling in, how the light would change, the smell of wet earth and the calm that came with the sound of the rain. This feeling is what he set out to capture in this series of images. By removing the flora of the desert from its surroundings, he found that its beauty emerged in an entirely different way, capturing those peace-filled moments from his childhood.
